Access Logan County Clerk of Court Records

The Logan County Clerk of Court is the state court clerk for local case files in Colorado. A request for records from the Logan County Clerk of Court should focus on court documents, not recorded land documents or marriage licenses. Court users contact this office for case copies, divorce decrees, probate letters, criminal dispositions, traffic case records, register-of-action summaries, and certified court documents. The office serves both District Court and County Court functions, so the right request path depends on the case type and document needed.

Logan County Clerk of Court Office

Colorado uses a split clerk structure in Logan County. The Clerk of Court works under the Colorado Judicial Branch at Logan County Combined Courts. The county-level Clerk and Recorder is a different elected office. That distinction is the most important fact for public record requests because case pleadings, orders, dockets, dispositions, and probate letters are not filed with the recording department.

The Colorado Judicial Branch lists Renee Harty as Logan County Clerk of Court and Probate Registrar. The court location page gives the court clerk's phone, fax, email, and public counter hours. The same local court page links court support tools such as records requests, transcript requests, interpreter requests, ADA information, online payments, mediation, jury information, probation, virtual courtrooms, and public defender application information.

The office serves the local court location for the 13th Judicial District in Logan County. It is also the practical contact point when a docket search confirms a case but the public user needs a copy, certification, register of action, or clerk review of a restricted file.

What Logan County Clerk of Court Handles

The Clerk of Court is the starting point when the desired document is part of a court case. District Court in Logan County handles felony criminal cases, civil cases without the county-court dollar limit, domestic relations, probate, juvenile, mental health, and authorized appeals from County Court or municipal court. County Court handles misdemeanors, traffic infractions, small claims, limited civil matters, protection orders, and early felony complaint appearances.

  • Criminal case documents, including complaint or information, disposition or sentence order, protection order, ticket, and register of action.
  • Family case documents, including divorce decree, parenting plan, separation agreement, support order, and petition.
  • Civil documents, including order for judgment, transcript of judgment, satisfaction of judgment, and protection order.
  • Probate documents, including letters, will, trust, application, petition, closing, claims, and date-of-death-related material.
  • Docket and case-status support when the public docket search is not enough to obtain a document copy.

Marriage licenses, civil unions, recorded deeds, plats, UCC filings, military discharge recordings, and historic grantor/grantee index records belong with the Logan County Clerk and Recorder, not the Clerk of Court.

Request Certified Logan County Court Copies

A certified court copy proves that the copy came from the court file. Certified or exemplified copies may be needed for legal proof, agency filings, title work, immigration issues, name restoration, or out-of-county proceedings. The Colorado Judicial Branch Record/Document Request Form allows the requester to mark whether certification or exemplification is needed.

  1. Search the docket first if the case number is unknown, using Logan County, Logan County Combined Courts, and the relevant court type.
  2. Open the court record request form and enter requester contact information, mailing address, and response details.
  3. Select Logan County as the county or location of the record, then enter the case number if known.
  4. Choose the case type and document category, such as Divorce Decree, Disposition/Sentence Order, Letters, Will, Ticket, or Register of Action.
  5. Mark certified or exemplified copy if the document must carry court certification.
  6. Respond to any clerk follow-up, including ID requests for suppressed, juvenile, probate, or protected-information records.

The request form says the clerk generally provides a response within three business days unless there are extenuating circumstances. A response is not the same as a guarantee that every document can be released.

Restricted Logan County Court Records

The Clerk of Court may restrict access to case files or parts of files under Colorado statutes, court rules, Supreme Court rules, Chief Justice directives, local administrative orders, and other legal authority. The record request form specifically warns that suppressed cases, juvenile and probate records, or documents with confidential or protected information may require a U.S. government-issued photo ID.

That restriction does not mean the clerk cannot help. It means a request may need review, identification, redaction, or a narrower document description. If the record is a Sterling municipal ticket, call Sterling Municipal Court at 970-522-9700 and ask for the Municipal Court Clerk. If it is a recorded document or marriage license, use the county Clerk and Recorder.

Use the case type labels from the request form when possible. Terms such as Felony, Misdemeanor, Divorce, Probate, Protection Order, Small Claims, and Traffic help separate state court files from municipal, law-enforcement, or recording-office records.
